Stone house in Lake Oswego where Velara mounted an outdoor access point on the balcony for Wi-Fi at the dock

Whole-Home Wi-Fi for Large Lake Oswego Homes

In a big house, one router or a row of plug-in extenders leaves weak spots: the far bedrooms, the basement, the garage. Access points fix that. They mount on a ceiling or wall, each one wired back to the network with its own Cat6 cable, and your phone moves from one to the next as you walk through the house.

Most networks we install run on UniFi: a gateway that runs the network, a switch where the house needs one, and as many access points as it takes to cover the house and the yard.

Recent Job: Wi-Fi From a Riverfront House Out to Its Dock

In August 2026 we got Wi-Fi out to the Barretts' dock on the Willamette River, across the lawn and the road from their house. A UniFi outdoor access point on the front balcony looks down to the river, fed by a new cable from the network closet, and a UniFi Cloud Gateway Max runs the network. We also mounted two cameras by the dock. Not counting the cameras themselves, the whole job came to $2,846.

“Excellent work setting up a point to point WiFi and camera setup to watch the furthest end of our property. On time and very affordable.”

Why Big Houses Have Wi-Fi Dead Zones

These are problems we've run into in Lake Oswego and around Portland:

  • Two Wi-Fi systems at once, like an Xfinity router and an eero kit, each broadcasting its own network.
  • Devices like a game console holding on to a far-away mesh unit instead of a closer one.
  • Weak signal in the garage, the backyard and by the pool.
  • Ethernet jacks that were wired but never connected, or that nobody can trace.
  • A dock, guest house, ADU or barn beyond the reach of the house Wi-Fi.

Wi-Fi Access Point Installation, and When Mesh Makes Sense

A mesh kit usually passes your data from unit to unit over the air, so the rooms farthest from the router depend on a wireless hop. A wired access point gets its own cable back to the network, so a far room doesn't. Where the cable can't go in, or the budget calls for it, we quote a mesh system too, so you can compare the two side by side.

Outdoor Wi-Fi for the Dock, Detached Garage, Guest House and Pool

Outside, an outdoor access point does the work. It mounts on the house, gets its power over the same cable that carries the data (PoE), and covers the yard, the pool or a dock it can see. At the Barretts', one on the front balcony covers the dock across the road. For a building farther away, we quote a pair of wireless bridge units that link it to the house over the air.

What Clients Say About Our Wi-Fi Work

“Izaac at Velara knows his stuff. He did an advanced WiFi network installation in my older house, putting in new access points, all the while answering my litany of nonsense questions with patience and enthusiasm. He put things into terms I could understand and explained what the pros and cons of the installation options were. He also went above and beyond, helping me configure multiple networks in my house, a primary, an IOT network and a guest network. It was expensive but I am so grateful for his expertise, and wifi coverage in my home is finally reliable in every room.”

Max S., Google review, April 2026

“Working with Izaac and the crew at Velara was a great experience. They did an excellent job networking my home in Mt. Tabor, installing Cat6 cabling, setting up my WiFi access points, and getting all of my devices connected and working together seamlessly.”

Lake Oswego Home Network Installation FAQs

How much does it cost to install Wi-Fi in a house?

It depends on the house and how far the Wi-Fi has to reach. In our own jobs and quotes, one access point with its cable, installed, came to $602 to $1,362 (the higher one was an outdoor access point and also included a gateway), and a new Cat6 run is $499. For one house in October 2026 we quoted whole-home Wi-Fi at $3,126 with a mesh system and $5,626 with wired access points, and one finished whole-home UniFi job came to $4,116. The Lake Oswego dock job on this page was $2,846, not counting the cameras themselves.

Can you get Wi-Fi out to my dock?

Yes. For the Barretts in Lake Oswego, one UniFi outdoor access point on the front balcony, fed by a new cable from the network closet, carries the Wi-Fi across the lawn and the road to their dock on the Willamette River. We also mounted two cameras by the dock. The right setup depends on the distance and what's in between, so we look at the property first; that walkthrough is free.

How long does Wi-Fi installation take?

Most of our networking jobs take 1 to 2 days, including ones with four access points and a few cameras. Bigger jobs take longer.

What's the best Wi-Fi for a big house?

Access points that are each wired back to the network with their own cable, rather than a mesh kit that usually relays your data from unit to unit over the air. Most networks we install run on UniFi: a gateway, as many access points as the house needs, and outdoor access points where the Wi-Fi has to reach outside.

Do I need whole-home Wi-Fi?

If some rooms, the garage or the yard drop to a weak signal, or video calls stall away from the router, it will help. If your router already covers the whole house well, you don't need more equipment.

Do I need both my Xfinity router and my eero?

Usually not as two separate Wi-Fi networks. When the internet provider's router and a mesh kit both broadcast, devices can hang on to the wrong one. Most often one of them should run the Wi-Fi and the other should just pass the internet through; we check what your provider's equipment allows before changing anything.
