Getting Wi-Fi Out to a Willamette River Dock in Lake Oswego

The Barretts wanted Wi-Fi at their dock on the Willamette River, across the lawn and the road from the house. One UniFi outdoor access point on the front balcony now covers it, and we mounted two cameras by the dock.

August 2026 · Quoted at a fixed $2,546.12 · $2,846.12 final, with a second dock camera added

The problem

The house sits up the bank from the road. The dock is on the other side of it, on the Willamette. The Barretts wanted Wi-Fi out there, and cameras to watch the far end of the property.

What we installed

  1. A new network cable from the network closet to the front of the house. It carries both data and power (PoE) to the access point outside, through an outdoor surge protector.
  2. A UniFi outdoor access point on the front balcony railing, where it looks out over the lawn and the road to the river.
  3. A UniFi Cloud Gateway Max to run the network.
  4. Two cameras by the dock, one of them solar-powered, on a tree.
  5. Setup of four devices.

What the client said

“Excellent work setting up a point to point WiFi and camera setup to watch the furthest end of our property. On time and very affordable.”

What it cost

We quoted $2,546.12, fixed. During the job a second dock camera was added: $200 to mount it and $100 to set it up, the same rates as the first. Nothing else on the quote changed, and the final invoice came to $2,846.12. Here it is, line by line:

ItemPrice
Network cable from the closet to the front of the house$500.00
Mount the UniFi outdoor access point on the balcony$200.00
Mount two cameras by the dock, one solar-powered ($200 each)$400.00
Set up four devices ($100 each)$400.00
Parts: UniFi Cloud Gateway Max, UniFi outdoor access point, outdoor surge protector, PoE+ adapter, mounts and shipping$1,157.52
Miscellaneous parts and tool use$188.60
Total$2,846.12

The cameras themselves aren't on this invoice; the job covered mounting them and setting them up.

Looking after it

In September 2026 the Barretts signed up for Velara Care, our support plan, at $99 a month. Theirs adds up to two visits a year, on request, to raise, lower or re-aim the dock cameras as the river level changes with the seasons.
